The Gardens

The gardens at Pen y Clip were designed as a secluded haven for the original owner of the house, Gaynor Cemlyn Jones by renowned gardener Martin Puddle. Like his father and grandfather before him Mr Puddle was head gardener at the world famous Bodnant Gardens in Conwy. Many of the unusual species cultivated there were transplanted to Pen y Clip and are now well established.

Miss Cemlyn Jones was a generous benefactor to many local causes and set up the Pen y Clip Trust to fund extensive research work in the Marine Sciences Deparment at Bangor University - in fact their teaching laboratory bears her name to this day.

The view from Pen y Clip is perfectly framed by Telfords graceful suspension bridge to the West and the elegance of the grand Victorian pier (stretching out onto the Straits) at Bangor to the East. The gardens have numerous viewpoints: sun loungers on the deck, wooden benches, the magnificent octagonal sun house and quite possibly the most spectacular view of all is from the hot-tub.
